Layout Design

Gill Sans Typeface poster

For this poster, I was inspired by 1920s art deco architecture and the simple lines and shapes that make up the Gill Sans type. I worked with a grid structure with the intent of organizing the decorative accents. I find sketching to be an important part of my design process as it helps me visualize the spirit of the piece, even if it is not exactly the same as the finished design.

Menu Page

To solve the problem of a multi-page menu, I utilized margins and a grid layout to organize the information into categories. Highlighting different sections of the page helps to break up the wall of text into something readable. This allowed me to make the most out of the text hierarchy and create an appealing cafe menu. The colors chosen were inspired by the cozy and warmness I associate with coffee in the wintertime.

Magazine layout

The inspiration behind this magazine layout came from the article topic, an album called Fearless. Its colors are gold and white and feels like summertime. With that in mind, I wanted the design to feel light and airy. The columns help to keep things organized and a drop cap along with using bold and italics maintains the design hierarchy increasing legibility.
